Tanker carrying $200 mil. in crude oil hijacked off Oman

The hijacking of a large US-bound oil tanker carrying a $200 million "marks a significant shift in the impact of the piracy crisis in the Indian Ocean, " the managing director of international tanker organization INTETERTANKO told Reuters Wednesday.
Tanker Irene SL Lanker was hijaked off the coast of Oman on Wednesday, the second such incident in two days.
The INTERTANKO official added that continued actions by pirates in the red sea could severely disrupt shipping lanes vital for the shipment of crude oil from the Middle East to the United States and the rest of the world, and that it could cause great damage to the world's oil economy.
