Transparent trash cube on Tel Aviv beach front sends message to beachgoers

The Tel Aviv-Jaffa Municipality has planted a 2x2x2-meter transparent trash cube along the city's popular Frishman Beach promenade, in hopes of convincing visitors to dispose of their waste in the proper receptacles.

Inside the cube are cigarette butts, cans, bottles, wrappers, plastic bags and papers that beachgoers have left on the sand.

"Our beaches are beautiful and clean early in the morning, but the litter left on the beach harms swimmers as well as the image of the city," said city council member Itai Pinkas.

"If we all use the many trash bins dispersed along the beach, we won't need more giant cubes like these to show everyone how much garbage is left on our beaches."
