Tel Aviv cyclists, pedestrians create road-sharing convention

Representatives of Tel Aviv's cycling and pedestrian communities, in collaboration with the municipality and the National Road Safety Authority, have formulated a convention to regulate a code of conduct regarding their respective forms of movement.
The convention aims to determine a set of rules that will make road use safer for all users, a statement from the municipality explained. For this purpose, the collaborators have launched a website at bicycle.tel-aviv.gov.il in which all interested parties can join in the discourse, vote on amendments and propose discussions about additional modes of transportation, such as electric bicycles and motorcycles.
"We live in a metropolis that is crowded and bustling, in parallel with infrastructure construction whose pace of implementation is not catching up with the reality of life – you still need patience and tolerance toward each other in this space," said Tel Aviv-Yafo deputy mayor Metial Lahavi, who oversees transportation.
"If everyone will work a bit for others, we will be able to live together safely in a confined space while considering the needs of others and benefit from a city with fewer vehicles, less pollution, less noise and more safety – with space for everyone."
