Thick haze causing traffic pileups on Chinese highways

Thick haze in north China’s Hebei Province caused four pileups involving 35 trucks on a highway in Wenan County on Saturday morning.
The accidents caused a backlog of vehicles extending five kilometers on Provincial Road No. 106.
Unfavorable driving conditions such as low visibility caused by haze, ice on the road, and a light snow on Saturday morning may have contributed to the accidents.
The local fire department and traffic police dispatched teams to rescue drivers trapped in their vehicles.
Afterwards, five drivers were sent to the hospital to treat their injuries.
Normal traffic conditions resumed at about noon.
