Three killed in head on collision northeast of Haifa

Three men were killed in a tragic head on collision between two vehicles on highway 70 near Tamra in the Galilee on Sunday afternoon that also left two more victims badly injured.The accident was first reported by police around 5 p.m., and was initially suspected to have been a hit and run. After traffic police examined the scene further they determined that no further vehicles were involved and they called off the search for a third car.The accident near Tamra occurred when for unknown reasons a taxi cab and a separate private vehicle hit head on. All three victims, men in their 30s who have yet to be named, were pronounced dead at the scene.Magen David Adom paramedic Roi Peer said that when he arrived at the scene he found three men unconscious and not breathing, with no pulse. All three had serious injuries across their entire bodies and after an attempt to revive them, paramedics ruled the three dead at the scene, Peer said.The accident caused serious gridlock from the moment it happened just before rush hour, closing an entire section of highway 70 until almost 9 p.m.The National Traffic Police said Sunday night they have opened an investigation into the collision.
