Three-quarters of Israel's beaches are clean

At the end of summer vacation, seventy five percent of beaches were "clean" or "very clean," according to the latest data from the Environmental Protection Ministry's Clean Beaches Program released Wednesday. Only the Gan Rave beach was classified as dirty, while 23% of the beaches examined were classified as "so-so." The three quarters' mark represents an 18% increase over last week. The Clean Beaches Program has been running for the past five years. It is an informational and enforcement campaign to get the public to pick up after themselves. The ministry puts pressure on local authorities to take responsibility for adjacent beaches and invites the public to participate in clean-up campaigns.
