Tibi only MK reprimanded for trip to Libya

MK Ahmed Tibi (UAL) was reprimanded Monday by the Knesset Ethics Committee for his April visit together with a number of other Arab MKs to Libya.
Although complaints against the other MKs - Mohammed Barakeh (Hadash), Jamal Zahalke (Balad), Afo Agbariyah (Hadash), Taleb a-Sanaa (UAL), and Hanin Zoabi (Balad) – were also submitted to the committee by MK Michael Ben-Ari (National Union), the committee decided to only reprimand Tibi because it was not the first time that he traveled overseas without receiving proper permission. The Ethics Committee clarified that Libya is not considered a state which Israelis are forbidden to visit, and in doing so, negated the more serious of the two complaints against the MKs.
MKs traveling overseas through any funding other than their own or the Knesset’s are required to request official permission before leaving the country. This particular trip was subsidized by the Libyan government and the MKs were guests of Libyan President Moammar Qaddafi during their brief stay in the North African nation.
