Tomato prices set to soar

The price of tomatoes is soaring, set to rise to NIS 16 per kilogram by Monday, after they were sold for up to NIS 13 per kilogram last week.

The high price of tomatoes is due to a shortage of the produce at the end of the season. All ripe tomatoes have been sold, and the new harvest is not yet ready.

Vegetables Growers Association secretary Meir Yifrach believes that the shortage will last a month. Yifrach said that last year was a difficult year for growers and that they reduced their crops.
