Top Druze IDF officer caught lying in accident report

Brig.-Gen. Imad Faris, whose term as commander of the Galilee Division ended on Sunday, announced his resignation from the IDF on Monday after admitting to lying in a car accident report. Faris, one of the highest-ranking Druze officers in the IDF, served for the past two years as commander of the Galilee Division, which is deployed along the border with Lebanon. He previously served as commander of the Givati Brigade and commander of Division 80, deployed along the Israeli-Egyptian border. The accident occurred on July 28 when Faris's wife was driving his IDF-issued car and was involved in a car accident. No one was injured in the accident. Faris informed the car-leasing company of the accident and wrote in the report that he was in the car at the time. On Saturday night, after the IDF learned of the accident, Faris spoke with OC Northern Command Maj.-Gen. Gadi Eizenkott and told him that he was in the car at the time of the accident. Faris said the same thing to Eizenkot's deputy Brig.-Gen. Alon Friedman.
