Train delays expected this week as Israel Railways lowers maximum speeds

Following last week's train derailment, Israel Railways announced that it will be lowering the maximum speed of their trains. A certain fraction of the network's passenger train cars were also expected to be temporarily taken out of service. Israel Radio reported on Sunday that Israel Railways decided to lower the maximum speed to 80 kilometers per hour for at least the coming week, while technicians planned to remove 48 "trailer"-type rail cars for inspection. Preliminary results of investigation of Wednesday's derailment near the village of Kfar Menachem indicated that the accident may have been caused by a technical fault.
