Transportation Minister: bus companies will need to install early-warning accident detection system

Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz said Monday that bus companies would need to install an early-warning accident detection system like Mobileye. “There is no doubt that these kind of systems minimize the number of accidents and heavy vehicles are involved in a large number of accidents with difficult consequences,” Katz said. Mobileye’s products, which use sensors to detect what’s going on around a car, are able to recognize road signs, tracks separating the lanes, barriers and, of course, other cars. Katz said that the Transportation Ministry is in talks with the Treasury to help with insurance companies so they will incentivize heavy vehicle users to install accident-detection systems.
