The Beersheba Magistrate’s court on Tuesday extended by twodays the remand of the truck driver, Muhammad al-Jabur, a Rahat resident in his20s, who was the truck driver involved in Monday’s collision that claimed thelives of five members of the same family.
Rahat told police Tuesday that he swerved into the oppositetraffic lane because the overhead glove compartment suddenly popped open andhit him in the head, distracting him from the road.
Funerals were held across Tuesday for the five.
The five victims - Ruti Dahan (57), her daughter Sarit (19), her son Lior(30), his wife Tali (33) and their five-month-old daughter Shilat - weretrapped inside the car and burned to death at the scene.
Paramedics who arrived at the scene said Tuesday that the condition of thebodies made precise identification impossible. The exact identities of thevictims were only determined after results from a DNA exam came back Tuesday.
