Trump: Israeli-Palestinian peace can catalyze broader Mideast peace

US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he "truly hopes" America can help forge peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

Speaking in Bethlehem on his whirlwind first foreign tour as president, Trump said that peace between Israel and the Palestinians could catalyze a broader regional peace throughout the Middle East.

"Peace cannot take root in a place where violence is tolerated," he said in a joint press conference with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. "Peace is a choice we can make each day and the US is here to help make that dream possible for young Jewish, Muslim and Christian children across the region."

"In this spirit of hope, we come to Bethlehem to ask for a more peaceful, safe and tolerant world for all of us," Trump stated.
