Turkey does not believe ratings agencies are impartial - PM

ISTANBUL - Turkey does not believe that assessments from credit ratings agencies are "highly impartial", Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said on Saturday, after ratings agency Moody's cut Turkey's sovereign debt to "junk" status.

"We don't believe that these assessments are highly impartial. We believe they are attempting to create a certain perception of the Turkish economy," Yildirim told reporters. His comments were broadcast live by channel A Haber.

Moody's downgraded Turkey's sovereign credit rating to non-investment grade late on Friday, citing worries about the rule of law following an attempted coup, risks from external financing and a slowing economy.
