Turkish PM says relations with EU at lowest point in recent times

ANKARA - Turkey's relations with the European Union have reached their lowest point in recent times, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said on Tuesday, after a leading European human rights body put Turkey back on a watchlist.
Yildirim told reporters Turkey would decide on what steps it would now take regarding the decision by the Strasbourg-based Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
This follows a 'Yes' vote to a referendum held last week in Turkey which will abolish the post of prime minister and concentrate power in the hands of the president, the biggest overhaul of Turkey's political system since the modern state was established nearly a century ago.
The results have been challenged in court by Turkey's main opposition party, and independent election monitors from the Council of Europe and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe have questioned the vote.
