Two teenage girls killed in car accident in Jezreel Valley

Two teenage girls were killed and two other people were seriously injured in a head-on collision between two cars on route 66 near the entrance to Midrakh Oz in the Jezreel Valley on Tuesday.
The victims were a 13-year-old-girl and her 14-year-old sister who were trapped in the back seat of the car, which paramedics who arrived on the scene described as "completely smashed."
Paramedics pronounced the sisters dead on the scene, and treated a 45-year-old woman who was in the car with them for a serious stomach injury. A 45-year-old man in the second car suffered serious chest injuries. Both were transported by helicopter to hospital.
According to driving safety NGO, Or Yarok, more than 200 accidents have occurred on route 66 in the past decade, resulting in the deaths of more than 30 people and causing injuries to 700 others.
Or Yarok director Shmuel Abuav lamented the fact that large stretches of route 66 have no divider between opposing lanes of traffic. "Today's accident could have been prevented with a simple and cheap separation barrier," he said.
