UK minister apologizes for Holocaust comparison

A British MP facing disciplinary action after accusing "the Jews" of atrocities against Palestinians has issued a public apology for causing "unintended offense," the Evening Standard reported Saturday.

In a new post, David Ward said he "never for a moment intended to criticize or offend the Jewish people as a whole, either as a race or as a people of faith, and apologise sincerely for the unintended offense which my words caused."

He added that his "criticisms of actions since 1948 in the Palestinian territories in the name of the State of Israel remain as strong as ever."

In the new post, Ward stated that he does "recognize of course the deep sensitivities of these issues at all times, and particularly on occasions of commemoration such as this weekend."

The British parliamentarian added that he raised the issue of treatment of Palestinians in order to make clear that "everybody needs to learn the lessons of the Holocaust."

"I will continue to make criticisms of actions in Palestine in the strongest possible terms for as long as Israel continues to oppress the Palestinian people," he added.
