UN atomic board reports Syria to Security Council

VIENNA - The UN nuclear watchdog board reported Syria to the Security Council for covert atomic work, diplomats said, a US-led move coinciding with Western condemnations of Damascus' crackdown on opposition protests.
With 17 votes in favor and 6 against, the 35-nation board of the International Atomic Energy Agency adopted a resolution rebuking the Arab state for its three years of stonewalling of an IAEA probe into a desert site bombed by Israel in 2007.
Russia and China voted against. Overall there were 11 abstentions and one country was absent, diplomats said.
