UN renews mandate of envoy to probe abuses in N.Korea

GENEVA - The United Nations voiced deepconcern on Thursday at "grave, widespread and systematic" humanrights violations in North Korea and renewed the mandate of itsspecial investigator on the situation in the reclusive country.

The 47-member forum adopted a resolution put forward by theEuropean Union and Japan which also deplored the use of tortureand labor camps against political prisoners. It urged Pyongyangto allow humanitarian aid including food to reach civilians.
