Uncle of Syria's Assad probed in Spain over alleged money laundering

MADRID - Spain's High Court said on Tuesday it has launched an investigation into former Syrian vice president Rifaat Al-Assad, uncle of Bashar al-Assad, over alleged money laundering for criminal groups in southern Spain.
Magistrate Jose de la Mata has ordered the confiscation of property in the towns of Puerto Banus and Marbella, and the closure of dozens of bank accounts, the court said in a statement on its website.
