Congress is sending President Barack Obama a $106 billion bill ensuring that the US military will have the money to fight the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan during the final months of this year.
The emergency spending bill contains $80 billion to fund ongoing operations in the two countries. The measure also provides money for a variety of other purposes. There's $7.7 billion for pandemic flu preparedness, $10.4 billion for foreign aid and $1 billion to initiate a "cash for clunkers" program promoting the purchase of more fuel-efficient cars.
The Senate voted 91-5 for the measure on Thursday. The House approved the bill earlier this week on a much closer, 226-202 vote.
