US Congresswoman, 6 others dead after shooting at event

US congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and six others were killed and several others injured after a lone gunman opened fire on a public event she was hosting in Tucson, Arizona on Saturday.
The Democratic member of the US House of Representatives, who began serving in her third term in congress just re-elected to her third term in congress in the latest elections in November, was hosting a "Congress on Your Corner" event at a supermarket in the city. The event was designed to give her constituents to approach her with their concerns.
Giffords leaves behind her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly and two children, NPR reported.
