US criticizes Turkey over Islamic State inaction

The United Stated criticizes Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's refusal to assist in the fight against Islamic State.
A top US official told the New York Times overnight on Wednesday that the US-led military coalition has in effect prevented the Syrian air force from flying over northern Syria, so Erdogan’s demand for a no-fly zone "[rang] hollow."
The official said that Washington was outraged about "Turkey dragging its feet to act to prevent a massacre less than a mile from its border,” after it protested the humanitarian crisis in Syria.
"They’re inventing reasons not to act to avoid another catastrophe," said the senior administration official, who talked with the Times on condition of anonymity "to avoid publicly criticizing an ally."
