A team of researchers in the US have found a cure for a common type of color blindness. Nature Magazine reported Thursday that the team successfully treated two male squirrel monkeys with red-green color blindness, a disorder affecting one in 12 men in the US. One of the latest breakthroughs in the field of gene therapy, the treatment involves an injection of a viral vector containing modified genes into an area behind the retina of the eyes. The magazine did not report when the therapy would become commercially available.
