US targets five Iraqi armored vehicles

The US Armed Forces targeted sites in Iraq on Saturday, French news site AFP reported on Sunday morning.

The airstrikes were defended as attempts to protect the Yazidi community, a minority currently threatened with genocide by the Islamic State.

President Barack Obama authorized the strikes, which included an airstrike of two IS armored vehicles carrying Yazidi civilians, though only one of the vehicles was hit and destroyed.

The airstrikes managed to destroy five armored vehicles overall.

There were no reports regarding the scope of damage or injuries.
