US will lead broad coalition to roll back terrorist threat, Obama vows

In a much-anticipated address to the nation, US President Barack Obama spoke from the White House on Wednesday, rolling out his plan to stave off Islamic State, which has seized large chunks of Iraq and Syria as it vies to reinstate a self-proclaimed caliphate.
"Our objective is clear: We will degrade and ultimately destroy ISIL through a comprehensive and sustained counter-terrorism strategy," the president vowed in his speech.
He added that the US would back Iraq's efforts against IS, but reiterated his long-held views that the US will not get "dragged into another ground war" in the shattered country.
