Uzbek ministry: At least 13 killed in C.Asia quake

ALMATY - At least 13 people were killed in Uzbekistan as a result of a powerful earthquake in the Ferghana valley region of Central Asia on Wednesday, the Uzbek Emergencies Ministry said in a statement. "According to preliminary data, 13 people were killed as a result of destruction to houses," the ministry said on its website.
The US Geological Survey said the magnitude 6.1 earthquake had its epicenter some 42 km southwest of Ferghana, a city in the east of Uzbekistan close to the Kyrgyz border.
