Vice premier urges Ban to push PA to direct talks

Vice Premier Silvan Shalom urged UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday night to press the Palestinian Authority into engaging in direct negotiations with Israel, warning that the Israeli-Palestinian track will move back 20 years if the upcoming proximity talks don’t quickly progress into face-to-face negotiations.
During their meeting in New York, Shalom also asked Ban to help impose effective sanctions on Iran, and told the UN chief that Israel would not be opposed to Turkey playing a mediating role again should peace talks resume with Syria, Israel Radio reported.
