Volleyball brawl leaves seven injured

At least seven people were injured, including four from stab wounds, after a fight broke out between dozens of fans of the Maccabi Haifa and Maccabi Tel Aviv volleyball teams late Wednesday night in Ra’anana.
The brawl broke out at around 11:00 p.m at the end of the women’s volleyball cup final being held at the Metro-West stadium. Police said the four stabbing victims were lightly and moderately injured.
Walla News reports that dozens of Maccabi Tel Aviv fans were waiting outside the volleyball court for the Maccabi Haifa fans in an apparent ambush.
The violence sparked condemnation from volleyball officials. “Fifty percent of the fans here are youth, children, and women and so it's very painful,” Dan Shirai a spokesman for the Volleyball Association told Walla.
While violence at soccer matches has been a reoccurring problem in Israel, violence at volleyball matches is relatively uncommon.
