Witness: Maoz racked up over NIS 300,000 in debt

In the second day of testimony in the Nurit and Noah Maoz double murder trial Monday, one of defendant Daniel Maoz's gambling friends told the court he estimated Maoz had lost anywhere between NIS 300,000 and 500,000 in the year and a half that he knew him.
The night of the murder, he testified at the Jerusalem District Court, Maoz showed up at the apartment where they were gambling splattered in blood, with a small wound on his hand and was sweating profusely. The friend, who could not be identified, added that he knew "something was wrong with Danny."
Three months before the murder, the witness testified, Maoz told his friends that his mother had died of cancer and that many of his friends had lent him money to get through his hard times. When he heard that Maoz's parents had been murdered, the friend continued, he was very surprised because he thought the mother had already died.
His appearance on the night of the killings, however, the witness testified, made him believe Maoz was the murderer.
