Writer Alaa Khlikhl permitted to visit Beirut

Writer and playwright Alaa Khlikhl will be permitted to to attend a Beirut convention of writers from the Arab world, according to a Tuesday ruling by the High Court of Justice.
The decision came after Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Interior Minister Eli Yishai announced  that the writer would be forbidden from attending the conference, at which he was to be awarded a Lebanese literary prize.
The judges explained their decision, saying that "there is no negative information regarding the petitioner's claim." The defense illustrated that Khlikhl was not a security threat and had no criminal background which would prevent him from travelling to Beirut.
The court further questioned the State as to why clear and fair criteria had not been established for permitting Israeli citizens to visit enemy countries.
