Ya'alon leaves Likud party

Former defense minister Moshe Ya’alon announced on Sunday that he had canceled his membership in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party. Ya’alon intends to run for the next Knesset as part of a new party called Manhigut Israel (Leadership for Israel).
“I remained loyal to the part [of the Likud’s heritage] I believe in, the path of the fathers of Zionism, including Ze’ev Jabotinsky and Menachem Begin,” Ya’alon said. “I am loyal to the statesmanlike Right that we miss. The Likud has changed its character.”
