The Yad Sarah organization, which among other things lends out to the public a large amount of medical equipment, is preparing to Pesach -- the most family oriented Jewish holiday. As many elderly and inform individuals will spend the seder with their families, they need to borrow hospital beds, wheelchairs, oxygen-producing machines and oxygen balloons and many others.
Some 350 more hospital beds (costing hundreds of thousands of shekels) for use at home have been purchased by the nationwide voluntary organization to cope with public requests before the holiday.
A total of 24,000 hospital inpatients and old-age home residents will be sent home during the holiday. From Yad Sarah’s previous experience, during the days before Pesach, the demand for medical equipment is three times the usual demand. All the equipment is purchased by the organization from donations.
Yad Sarah also lends medical equipment to foreign tourists in hotels and elsewhere. There is much demand before the festival for its Nechonit vans that accommodate people in wheelchairs needing to leave the hospital or get to various venues. Some 7,300 are expected to use the service before the holiday.
