Yesh Atid snubs PM's offer for deputy minister post

Yesh Atid on Wednesday rejected on offer from Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to recieve a deputy minister post instead of the chairmanship of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, which it had coveted, party chairman Yair Lapid announced on Army Radio.
Lapid had wanted the chairmanship to be given to his long-time friend and ally, Yesh Atid faction chairman Ofer Shelah. But, Netanyahu instead appointed Likud MKs Ze'ev Elkin and Yariv Levin in a rotation.
"Yesh Atid does not want a deputy minister as compensation for the committee," Lapid said.
"I am sad that Shelah did not receive the chairmanship, because he is the most qualified man for the post and would have done a great job."
