Yishai: Housing crisis must be solved; threatens coalition

Interior Minister Eli Yishai on Tuesday put forward several proposals to deal with the housing crisis and threatened to quit the coalition if solutions aren@@@t reached quickly.
The price of land needs to actually be lowered and those needing housing should be offered apartments on land that is given for free, Yishai told Israel Radio. Such apartments should be sold with interest-free mortgages, he added. It wouldn@@@t be a disaster if the government profits less from the sale of apartments, he said.
Shas, the interior minister said, would formulate a plan to solve the crisis but warned that a solution must be found or he wouldn@@@t hesitate to quit the coalition.
