Despite the rise in fuel prices driving up air fares the number of tourists visiting Israel during the month of May reached a high of 300,000, an increase of 60 percent compared with the same month last year, the Tourism Ministry reported on Tuesday.
In the first five months of the year, 1.2 million tourists arrived in Israel, leading the ministry to predict that it will meet its goal of attracting 2.8m. tourists to Israel this year. On the coming Monday, the Tourism Ministry will hold a special meeting at Kisufim in the Negev to discuss a work plan for next year which aims at bringing 3.3m. tourists to Israel.
