EU threatens WTO complaint over piracy in China

Europe could join the US in filing a World Trade Organization complaint about China's patchy record on tackling intellectual property piracy unless Beijing takes more action, EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson said Wednesday. He said European Union officials were talking to the Chinese about beefing up copyright and patent protection, which he said still does not go far enough. "I do not rule out initiating or joining action at the WTO if, in our view, China is failing to take its responsibilities seriously," he said. "The fact is that despite considerable efforts by the Chinese government, intellectual property protection in China remains patchy and uneven."
