Jan-Feb credit card spending up 10.3%

Spending on food and drink rose 5.2% year-on-year; 17.3% for industrial products; 18.6% for services; and 6.7% in the "other" category rose 6.7%.

Household credit card purchases rose 10.3 percent in the first two months of 2006 compared to a year earlier, the Central Bureau of Statistics said Monday. The largest increases were on payments for municipal and national services, travel and hospitality, and furniture. Spending on food and drink rose 5.2% year-on-year; 17.3% for industrial products; 18.6% for services; and 6.7% in the "other" category rose 6.7%. Total credit card spending rose 8.8% in 2005.
