Australian banks and major corporations not only hold vast amounts of customer data, like companies around the world, but they also operate across regional and international markets. That makes them prime targets for ransomware syndicates and state-backed cyber threat actors.

The Australian government website, citing data from the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD), says Australians are targeted by cyber incidents every six minutes. It also notes a significant increase in cyber incidents and malicious activity across the economy in recent years.

That has put Australian companies on the lookout for the best ways to protect their data, according to Ofer Brown, chief operating officer of Israeli cybersecurity company NSKnox. The company was founded by CyberArk founder Alon Cohen. Brown is a founding team member.

"Australia is very advanced in banking and considered to be among the early adopters of technology," Brown told The Jerusalem Post. "There is a lot of awareness in Australia about cyber and cyber fraud. It's easier to educate the market than other markets that are less advanced and aware."

NSKnox has been operating in Australia for five years, and Brown described it as "a good market" for high-quality cybersecurity companies.

Cybersecurity companies interested in expanding into Australia or growing their presence in the market will have an opportunity to meet potential partners and industry leaders at The Jerusalem Post Australia Summit, the first event of its kind, on November 19 in Sydney. Among the conference's themes will be cybersecurity and data trust, alongside discussions on business, investment, and innovation.

The one-day conference will bring together senior business leaders, investors, entrepreneurs, policymakers, philanthropists, and community leaders from Australia, Israel, and the broader Asia-Pacific region to explore opportunities for deeper economic and commercial cooperation.

In addition to discussions about Israel, Zionism, and combating antisemitism, the summit is expected to provide a forum for representatives of the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, Israeli growth companies, Australian investors, the Australian Securities Exchange, family offices, venture capital funds, and institutional investors to discuss potential cross-border partnerships.

Australia has experienced several major cyberattacks in recent years, including at least two high-profile incidents in 2025.

In March 2025, Sydney Tools suffered a breach that exposed 34 million online order records and more than 5,000 employee records. According to Cyber Daily, the incident occurred after a ClickHouse database was mistakenly left publicly accessible without authentication.

Just a few months later, in July 2025, hackers stole the personal data of as many as six million Qantas customers. According to The Guardian, the attack targeted the airline's call center systems. The stolen information included customer details and frequent flyer data, raising concerns that victims could become targets of phishing and social engineering attacks.

NSKnox helps banks and corporations protect business-to-business payments from fraud while meeting regulatory compliance requirements. Brown said the company's technology detects and prevents threats ranging from business email compromise and social engineering to insider fraud and other sophisticated financial attacks.

Asked whether he would recommend that other Israeli companies enter the Australian market, Brown's answer was unequivocal.

"I would definitely recommend it," he said, adding that success depends on working with a local partner who understands the country's business culture and market.

"Local partners on the ground know how to approach the situation," Brown said.

Events such as The Jerusalem Post Australia Summit can help companies begin building those local relationships by connecting them with potential partners and stakeholders in the Australian market.
