Samsung is planning a strategic move that could reshape the AI landscape in the mobile market: According to a recent Bloomberg report, the South Korean tech giant is close to signing a large-scale agreement with the American startup Perplexity AI, under which it will integrate the company’s advanced search technology into its future devices. This collaboration may lead to deep integration of AI solutions not only in Samsung’s apps and browser but also in its voice assistant Bixby, and may even establish Perplexity as the company’s main digital assistant – a move expected to result in the replacement of Google’s AI model, Gemini, and a reduction in reliance on the company.
According to sources cited in the report, the emerging agreement includes a financial investment by Samsung in Perplexity’s funding round, which is estimated at $00 million based on a market valuation of $14 billion. As part of the understanding between the parties, the Perplexity app and its digital assistant will come pre-installed on future Samsung devices, alongside the integration of the company’s AI-based search engine in Samsung’s browser.
The report also indicates that one of the long-term goals is not only to expand the usability of Perplexity on Samsung devices but also to jointly develop a new smart operating system and advanced AI applications based on agentic AI. According to Bloomberg, Samsung may officially reveal the collaboration later this year, with an actual launch expected to include the flagship Galaxy S26 series at the Unpacked event to be held in winter 2026.
Until now, Samsung has mostly relied on the integration of Google technologies such as the Gemini assistant and the Circle to Search feature as part of the smart capabilities on its devices. The new collaboration with Perplexity signals a shift in the company’s approach – one that is more focused on technological independence and the inclusion of additional AI players in the market.
Other industry players are also closely watching Perplexity: Previous reports have noted that Apple also considered integrating the company’s search engine into Safari, while Motorola already announced a formal collaboration with it in April. In other words – Perplexity is quickly becoming a prominent name in the search and AI market, and the potential partnership with Samsung only strengthens its status as a key player in the field.
