Kan, the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation, is launching the next generation of “Kan BOX,” new applications for mobile devices and smart TVs, as part of its preparations for the 2026 World Cup – expected to be the largest in history. The new app will support five operating systems from 2018 onward: Android, Apple, Samsung, Hisense, and LG. The development company that worked together with Kan’s digital division on upgrading the applications is REDGE.

Among the innovations in the Kan BOX app is a full cross-platform experience, allowing continued viewing, favorites, and content recommendations that follow viewers from the smart TV, through mobile devices, and to the website. The app will offer live and VOD broadcast quality at the highest level in the industry, including full 4K support, and will also be adapted for family viewing through the creation of multiple dedicated profiles for children and parents. In addition, the smart TV version will include a Catch-up service for all Kan 11 content, “Makan,” and Kan Educational, alongside a Start-Over option within the live broadcast player. A recommendation system based on analysis of personal viewing patterns will help discover new content, an option will be added to download audio and video content for viewing in flight mode, and a dedicated, safe, and branded children’s area will be launched, operating under Kan Educational.

The Kan BOX app was launched with great success on the eve of the 2022 World Cup. It is installed and active on more than 1.5 million devices. The app, which centralizes the entire VOD library, television channels, and radio stations of the Public Broadcasting Corporation, includes about a thousand series and tens of thousands of episodes, and up to several hundred films across a wide range of topics and styles: From the award-winning drama and comedy series of Kan 11, through the unique content world of Kan Educational; the leading web series in Israel from Kan Digital – to an extensive archive library of treasures from the Israel Broadcasting Authority.

The app is active in Hebrew and Arabic, where it is also possible to watch the entire content world of the Makan channel, Makan News, and digital content in the Arabic language. The app is available for download on all smart TVs and streamers across five different operating systems: Android, Apple, Samsung, Hisense, and LG, starting from the 2018 production year.

Golan Yochpaz, CEO of Kan: “Just before the 2026 World Cup, which will be the largest in history, and with the intention of giving the corporation’s millions of viewers the best viewing experience in the tournament and in tens of thousands of hours of Kan content in the fields of news, drama, documentary, entertainment, and children – we are proud to launch the new Kan BOX applications, which will be the most advanced in Israel.
