Just after launching the discounted Model 3 in Israel at NIS 192,000, Tesla is introducing at the opposite end of its local lineup the new Model Y Performance. Priced at NIS 335,000 (NIS 338,000 including registration fees), it is currently the most expensive Tesla offered in Israel, following the halt of Model S and Model X imports and before sales of the Cybertruck begin.

The new Performance version receives aggressive front and rear bumpers and a large carbon-fiber rear spoiler, further differentiating it from other Model Y variants. Inside the cabin there are sport seats, along with a 16-inch central multimedia screen instead of the previous 15.4-inch unit, with improved resolution. There is also an 18-inch screen for rear passengers, 15 speakers with a subwoofer, and the familiar panoramic roof without a sunshade.

Output stands at 460 hp with dual-motor all-wheel drive. Performance figures include 3.5 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, six tenths of a second slower than the lighter Model 3 Performance and four tenths quicker than the previous Performance version. Top speed is 250 km/h, and combined driving range is rated at 580 km, relatively long for a performance model.

Handling is managed by new adaptive suspension, with the ability to send more power to the rear axle for sportier dynamics. To improve grip and road behavior, the Performance version rides 1.2 cm lower than the standard Model Y. It also features lightweight 21-inch wheels and Pirelli P Zero tires.

Customer deliveries in Israel will begin during the current quarter. For NIS 290,000, nearly NIS 50,000 less, buyers can get the Model Y Long Range with all-wheel drive, 0–100 km/h acceleration in 4.8 seconds, and a combined range of 600 km.

The new Performance version is about NIS 45,000 more expensive than its predecessor, as its higher price places it under Israel’s luxury tax. The price increase reflects Tesla’s effort to further differentiate the Model Y from the growing number of Chinese competitors.

Electric crossovers in their sport versions now achieve performance levels that were once associated only with much more expensive sports cars. However, creating one that also delivers genuinely sporty handling requires adaptive suspension and other costly components. The competing Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, launched in Israel at NIS 400,000, rose last year to NIS 450,000, leading to the suspension of imports.

On the other hand, Chinese EV manufacturers targeting the Model Y in the crossover segment also offer sporty, inspiration-driven versions, most of which are more powerful than the Performance and all of them significantly cheaper, in some cases by NIS 100,000. The refreshed Xpeng G6 Performance costs NIS 240,000, delivers 487 hp, and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. The new IM6, from SAIC’s luxury division, offers 777 hp, adaptive suspension, and an identical 3.5-second sprint to 100 km/h. However, none of them match Tesla’s reputation or its network of fast and relatively inexpensive Superchargers available to customers.

In 2025, Tesla delivered only one Model Y Performance in Israel due to the model changeover, compared with 180 Model 3 Performance units. IM, which launched its local operations toward the end of the year, delivered a single IM6 Performance, with full deliveries beginning this month. Other competitors in the segment achieved relatively strong numbers for their price points: 458 Xpeng G6 Performance units, 352 Zeekr 7X Krypton units, and 94 BYD Sealion 7 Excellence vehicles were registered with the Transport Ministry. The smaller and cheaper Smart 3 Brabus delivered 133 units, while the Smart 1 Brabus accounted for 71. In total, the segment recorded cumulative sales of more than NIS 250 million over the past year.
