Palestinian snipers fired at Israeli security personnel operating near the northern Gaza border fence on Thursday.
No injuries were reported in the attack, however engineering vehicles were lightly damaged.
The incident came after Israel Navy forces fired last week on two alleged smuggling boats off the Gaza coast.
According to the IDF, the suspected vessels were heading out from the Strip to Egypt when the Navy intercepted them as part of ongoing IDF operational activities to prevent smuggling into Gaza.
Palestinian reports cited four wounded from the Israeli fire.
As the Navy was escorting the boats in question back to the Gaza shore, gunmen on the coast opened fire on the Israeli forces.
No injuries were reported on the Israeli side.
