A projectile fired from Syria exploded in the northern Golan Heights on Wednesday night.An Iron Dome battery in the area attempted to intercept the projectile, though it did not succeed.The projectile was likely fired into Israel unintentionally in the course of battles between Syrian rebels and regime forces near the Israeli border. There were no injuries or damages.It was the first time the Iron Dome had been used in the Golan Heights.In March of this year, Israel and the US Department of Defense officially signed an agreement to continue production of the Iron Dome weapon system, the US Embassy announced.The deal ensures continued US funding for building Iron Dome batteries and purchasing interceptors – the missiles used to intercept and destroy rockets that are fired at Israel.
