The Palestinian Authority established diplomatic relations with El Salvador on Thursday and on Friday the Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Maliki was set to sign an agreement establishing diplomatic relations with Honduras, Israel Radio reported.
El Salvador was among the last Central American nations to form diplomatic relations with the Palestinian Authority and was the final nation to remove its embassy from Jerusalem seven years ago.
Denmark and Finland announced last week that they would upgrade the status of the Palestinian missions in Copenhagen and Helsinki, respectively, to be equivalent to embassies.
In a joint statement, the Nordic countries emphasized that the upgrade “does not entail a formal bilateral recognition of a sovereign Palestinian state.”
