Movement for Quality Government: It's important for public to understand Netanyahu's motives for not appointing a deputy.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu must appoint a permanent deputy, the Movement for Quality Government demanded Tuesday.The government watchdog NGO wrote a letter to the Prime Minister's Office and Attorney-General Yehuda Weinstein pointing out that Basic Law: Government says that if the prime minister is abroad or incapacitated, his deputy will temporarily take his place as acting prime minister.In other words, the Movement for Quality Government explained, Acting Prime Minister is a job with authority defined by law."The law does not require the prime minister to appoint a permanent deputy. However, previous prime ministers like Ariel Sharon and Ehud Olmert did so," the NGO explained. "We think an appointment like this fits the spirit of the law and ensures stability in our leadership during routine and emergency times."Movement for Quality Government Legal Department Manager Dafna Kiro-Cohen added that "it is important for the public to understand the prime minister's motives for not appointing a deputy, and whether the reason is reasonable or not."
