If Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is a wolf in sheep’s clothing, then Meretz MKs are providing that woolly cover, Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee chairman Avigdor Liberman (Likud Beytenu) contended on Sunday.
Liberman’s comments came three days after all six Meretz lawmakers met with Abbas in Ramallah, who told them no progress was made in peace talks, but that he hopes they will not be a waste of time.
“Abbas is using Meretz MKs the way a wolf uses sheep’s clothing,” the Yisrael Beytenu chairman wrote on Facebook. “Once every few months, Abbas meets with members of left-wing parties and says the things they want to hear in English in order to appear like someone who is really interested in peace with Israel.”
Liberman added that it is unfortunate that Meretz MKs don’t stay in Ramallah between their meetings, to hear “speeches of incitement encouraging terror and terrorists” that Abbas makes in Arabic.
“Apparently, some people like being sheep that are used as a cover for wolves,” Liberman concluded.
