MK proposes 5-years in jail for posting sex tapes

The bill will be brought to a vote in the Ministerial Committee for Legislation on Sunday.

Disseminating nude photos or videos without the subject’s permission could be punishable by a prison sentence of up to five years, according to a new bill proposed by MK Yifat Kariv.
The bill is an amendment to the Law to Prevent Sexual Harassment and will be brought to a vote in the Ministerial Committee for Legislation on Sunday.
“Sending these videos or photos are not a prank. They can ruin lives of people and of young girls who could commit suicide or become porn stars against their will,” Kariv said. “This is a dangerous phenomenon that must be stopped.”
According to Kariv’s proposal, filming or photographing a person without him or her knowing, or forcing the person to be filmed and then posting, or disseminating the photos or videos without the subject’s knowledge or agreement, will be considered sexual harassment that carries up to five years in prison.
“The current law does not deal with a phenomenon that is growing more and more common, of films and photos of men or women in intimate moments. It is essential that we curb it and deal with it,” Kariv stated.
The Yesh Atid MK expressed hope that the ministers will vote in favor of the legislation and that more bills will be passed dealing with issues that have come up in recent years because of the Internet and social media.
