Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday that he hopes kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Schalit will be released during his term in office.
“I cannot offer details on our efforts to release Gilad Schalit, but you can be assured that, without giving details, a day does not pass in which we are not working to make things happen,” Netanyahu said.

“Even if we cannot explain what we are doing, the goal is the same goal as in New Zealand – to rescue him from the depths of the earth and return Gilad home.”
Netanyahu spoke during a meeting with 30 of the Chilean miners who were trapped underground last November.
Meanwhile, police on Wednesday arrested a second man accused of posing as a fundraiser for the campaign to free Schalit. The man, 57 from Holon, claimed to be raising money for the Schalit family, but did not transfer any of the funds to them. Earlier this week, Ronen Bar-Shira was arrested for a similar offense.
