Regardless of what your mother said, we all believe we have to be doing a thing everybody else is doing. Moms don't really get peer pressure; when she calls you out on something and you tell her that "everybody's" doing it, she, of course, throws this snappy comeback at you: "And if everybody jumps off the top of a building, should you do that too?" Gotcha! Regardless, though, "everybody's doing it" is hard for many of us to argue with. If everybody's involved in something, there must be something to it. Of course, if you were to think about it, you'd realize that mom was right; and if millions of stock market investors had listened to their gut, instead of the broker who said, "But everybody's investing in [insert name of your favorite sinking stock]," they'd be a lot better off right now. With investing out of style (and budget) for most people, attention has turned to the "social Internet" - where you make your "Web presence" known to all and sundry. If you've got something to say, there are tens of millions on the Internet interested in hearing about it. And it all starts with your personal "Web log" - your blog. It seems as if everybody and their dog (www.dogswithblogs.com.au) has a blog nowadays, and if you don't maybe it's time to think about getting one. There are lots of ways to approach blogs; you can set one up at a site like www.blogger.com/. Or, if you're more ambitious, you can build a blog using software from wordpress.org/ and host it somewhere. But why bother with all that? If you've got something to tell the world, you can just type it up in your word processor, add your pictures - and publish it to the WWW using the amazing http://file2.ws/. File2.ws can publish documents, PDFs, audio, video, html, photos - almost anything. You upload your file and File2.ws converts it - automatically. You get a Web address link for your new site, and your page looks (or sounds) exactly like in the file you uploaded, nicely formatted as a Web page.
